Transnet is offering unemployed South African graduates the chance to gain real workplace experience through its Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme. Running over 12 months, this programme bridges the gap between academic study and practical industry exposure, giving participants hands-on training, mentorship, and direct insight into how a major logistics and infrastructure organisation operates.
About the Programme
The WIL Trainee Programme is designed for students and recent graduates who have completed the theoretical coursework of their qualification but still need practical, workplace-based learning to complete their studies or strengthen their employability. Trainees will work under supervision across various departments, applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to real operational and administrative tasks.
What You’ll Be Doing
Task Execution
- Assist with projects within a specific department or work-stream
- Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
- Support administrative functions, including documentation and reporting
Learning & Development
- Take part in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes
- Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical insight
- Engage in problem-solving activities to build analytical skills
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to understand business needs
- Provide regular updates on assigned tasks and project progress
- Act as a point of contact for queries and assistance
Research & Analysis
- Conduct market research, data collection, and analysis to support business decisions
- Prepare reports and presentations using MS Office tools
- Assist with process improvement initiatives
Trainees are also expected to follow company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, uphold ethical and professional standards, and maintain confidentiality throughout the programme.
Who Should Apply
- Matric certificate
- B Eng Tech or National Diploma (S4–S5), with all theoretical coursework completed in Electrical (Heavy Current), Mechanical, Industrial, or Engineering
- South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35
