About the Opportunity
Transnet is offering a learnership for aspiring Trainee Controllers. Controllers are responsible for the safe and efficient 4movement of petroleum products through the pipeline network. They operate specialised equipment according to a scheduled programme, while paying close attention to product volume and quality, the safety of personnel, company assets, and customer satisfaction.
What You Will Be Trained To Do
- Manage risk and pollution control, including monitoring separator tanks, detecting leaks and spillages, and draining water from bund areas
- Handle and plan the blending of transmixtures and intermixtures
- Use company operating systems and software to control pipeline equipment
- Plan and perform scheduled and unscheduled minor maintenance
- Launch and receive pigs and spheres according to company procedures
- Perform product metering and check metering equipment
- Carry out pipeline shutdowns and implement corrective action in substandard conditions
- Run product quality tests and monitor equipment performance
- Capture, verify, and report information accurately
Requirements
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, or an N3 Technical Engineering qualification in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Metering Control and Instrumentation
- A pass in the competency assessment, which tests technical ability and numeric, verbal, and abstract reasoning
- A good command of English
- A valid driver’s licence, code 08 to 10
