The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is inviting unemployed youth to apply for the position of Telecom Operator, based in Pretoria. This is a Grade 12 entry-level government opportunity suited to candidates with strong communication skills, computer literacy, and a customer-service orientation.
This role sits at the front line of the department’s communication function, ensuring that calls are directed efficiently, information is relayed accurately, and the switchboard runs smoothly at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Answering and directing incoming calls to the relevant section or directorate
- Providing information about services rendered by the department
- Logging and maintaining records of all incoming calls
- Providing the internal telephone directory to staff on request
- Offering secretarial support and conveying messages when officials are unavailable
- Sharing contact details for Provincial and District Offices with the public
- Ensuring the switchboard is manned at all times
- Delivering an efficient and professional telephone service on behalf of the department
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literacy, including MS Office
- Good interpersonal and public relations skills
- Ability to work under pressure and solve problems
- Sound customer service and document management skills
