Embedded Systems Engineering Intern at Globaltrack

Location: Johannesburg (on-site)
Team: Research and Development
Type: Internship

About Globaltrack

Globaltrack builds connected vehicle and IoT devices, with a focus on transport. Its R&D team in Johannesburg designs, builds and tests the hardware and firmware behind these products.

About the Role

Globaltrack is looking for an Embedded Systems Engineering Intern to join the R&D team. You will work alongside experienced engineers on firmware, hardware and testing for connected vehicle and IoT devices. This is hands-on work. You will spend time in the lab and at the bench, and you will see your contribution go into real products.

Key Responsibilities

  • PCB bring-up, prototyping and lab testing
  • GSM/LTE, GNSS and BLE integration
  • Writing and testing firmware in C/C++ on STM32 and ARM Cortex-M
  • Supporting engineers with hardware debugging and test work
  • Documenting your work and sharing findings with the team

Requirements

  • A student or recent graduate in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field
  • Basic to intermediate C or C++ skills
  • Ability to read schematics and datasheets
  • Comfort working in a lab environment
  • Willingness to learn and ask questions

Advantageous

Experience with any of the following will count in your favour:

  • STM32
  • ESP32
  • FreeRTOS
  • CANbus
  • Oscilloscope use
  • KiCad

What to Include in Your Application

Globaltrack wants to see what you have built. When you apply, include examples of technical projects you have built or contributed to. These can be:

  • University projects
  • Git repositories
  • PCB designs
  • Robotics projects
  • IoT builds

Strong examples matter more than a long CV. If you have a GitHub profile, a project write-up or photos of a board you designed and assembled, include them.

Who Should Apply

This role suits someone who enjoys working close to the hardware. If you like getting a board to power up, tracing a fault with an oscilloscope, or getting a cellular module to connect, this internship will give you real experience. It is a good starting point for a career in embedded systems, IoT and automotive technology.

Electrical, electronic, computer and mechatronics students and graduates are all encouraged to apply, as long as you are comfortable with C or C++ and enjoy practical engineering.

How to Apply

Applications are made through the link below. Make sure your application includes your CV and examples of your technical projects.
