Eskom, certified as a Top Employer South Africa for 2026 for the second consecutive year, is inviting applications from young South Africans for its Learner Artisan Programme based in Mpumalanga. This is a fantastic opportunity for school leavers with a technical qualification to receive institutionalised and on-the-job training toward a recognised artisan trade within one of the country’s leading energy utilities.
Eskom is currently recruiting Learner Artisans across the following disciplines: Electrician, Boilermaker, Welder, Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter, and Instrument Mechanician. Successful applicants will go through a structured training and recruitment process and, where applicable, be placed within Eskom’s Operations divisions.
About the Programme
This learnership combines theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on training under the guidance of experienced artisans and trainers. Learners will be equipped with the technical competence, workplace exposure, and trade knowledge needed to qualify as artisans in their chosen field, while being immersed in Eskom’s culture of professionalism, safety, and service excellence.

- Good communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and liaising skills

- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, Eskom’s policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be South African citizens and hold Grade 12 plus the relevant N3, N4, N5, or N6 Certificate, or NCV Level 4, in the corresponding trade area, with a minimum of 50% for Maths, 50% for Science, and 40% for English:
- Learner Artisan Electrician – Electrical
- Learner Artisan Boilermaker – Boilermaking
- Learner Artisan Welder – Welding
- Learner Artisan Fitter and Turner – Fitting and Turning
- Learner Artisan Mechanical Fitter – Fitting
- Learner Artisan Instrument Mechanician – Instrumentation
Location & Contract
All positions are based in Mpumalanga on an internship contract, with market-related remuneration.

Applications for the Fitter and Turner learnership close on 6 September 2026. All other trades (Electrician, Boilermaker, Welder, Mechanical Fitter, and Instrument Mechanician) close on 7 September 2026.
